We believe God gave you unique skills and talents to help change the world around you. At New Community Church, there are serving opportunities to fit your skills and your schedule!

New Community is full of diverse people, and God made each of us to serve in different ways. We know there’s a role out there that fits your God-given talents. Team

Create a welcoming environment as you greet people in person or online to help everyone feel comfortable during weekly services.

New
Kids

Partner with parents to lead kids to become fully devoted followers of Christ. Help kids birth-6th grade learn about who God is and who they are through age-specific lessons, small groups, and tons of fun.

Production & Worship Team

Be a worshipper who builds worshippers. Serve on stage and behind the scenes to help people connect with God through weekly worship services, social media, and photography.

Set Up
Team

Transform our Theaters into spaces where every ONE can meet with God. Along with overseeing the set up process at each location, these team serves as parkers and safety volunteers.

Events / Outreach Team

Help us rebuild the bridge of trust with our community by serving in local schools, at community events, recovery ministries and compassion projects.

Small Group Leadership

Help people find their new community, experience freedom, and take next steps by leading a small group.

SET UP / TAKE DOWN TEAM

Captain: Leads the Team for weekend, overseeing the Set up / Take Down process, leading the Team Huddle, and creating the space for connection and prayer. 18+; Background Check Required

Hands Team: We transform a theater into a space that welcomes the disconnected to come to connect with God. 13+

Parking Team: We want to welcome people from the first moment they are on the property, and ensure that they have a smooth and efficient parking experience. 13+

Safety Team: Safety & security is one of our top priorities. As you prayer-walk our facility and grounds on Sundays, you’ll also help us be safe. This role requires awareness of your surroundings, as well as attention to detail. 18+

HOST TEAM

Captain: Leads the Host Team for weekend, overseeing the Set up / Take Down process, leading the Team Huddle, and creating the space for connection and prayer. 18+; Background Check Required

Greeter Team: Be one of the first faces to welcome all our guests and members. By opening the door, serving coffee or offering an umbrella, your warm smile can make such a huge difference in making our Sundays feel welcoming to all. 13+

Usher Team: Our main goal is to maintain a distraction-free service environment. Greet people as they enter the auditorium and direct them to available seats. We also facilitate offering, communion and perform other tasks during the service as needed. 18+

Growth Track: This team helps new attenders understand the vision of New Community and how they can find their place and make a difference in the church and community. 18+

NEW KIDS TEAM

Captain: Leads the Team for weekend, overseeing the Set up / Take Down process, leading the Team Huddle, and creating the space for connection and prayer. 18+; Background Check Required

Tinies Team (6 Weeks – 3 Years): Minister to our children in an age-appropriate environment through Bible stories, worship, prayer, hands-on activities and personal interactions. 13+; Background Check Required

Preschool Team (3-5 Years): Minister to our children in an age-appropriate environment through Bible stories, worship, prayer, hands-on activities and personal interactions. 13+; Background Check Required

Elementary Team (6-11 Years): This is where the magic happens. You’ll have the opportunity to lead a small group a kids every week, and help them process and apply the Kids lesson to their own lives. One Service a Week. 13+; Background Check Required

WORSHIP / PRODUCTION TEAM

Audio Tech: Our front of house audio engineer is one that requires an ear for music as well as the experience of mixing a live band. This position is one of the more critical because it serves the experience of everyone in the room. Training provided. 16+

Camera Operator: You’ll increase the reach of God’s Word by capturing the entire service experience for our online campus and future viewers. 14+

Musician: Use your musical talents to lead people in encountering God each week. Auditions and Weekly Rehearsals. 14+

Projection Tech: Use creativity and technology to deliver the Word and worship through projection and other visual elements. 14+

Photography Team: Capture video and photo footage that helps others see what God sees at New Co. 16+

Online Care: This team connects with guests of New Co. from around the world, encouraging, praying for and building relationships with those who attend church online. 18+

Vocalist: Use your vocal talents to lead people in encountering God each week. Auditions and Weekly Rehearsals required. 14+

Streaming Tech: Create an online experience for viewers around the world to engage the gospel at New Co. +14

Social Media Team: Volunteer during the week and use your gifts to reach the community and build up the church through social media and an online presence. +18

SMALL GROUPS TEAM

Small Group Leader: This team hosts small groups, offering a place for people to find meaningful community. Small group leaders host groups based on topics or activities they are passionate about. 18+

Small Group Coach: Caring for the ones who care for everyone. A Small Group Coach helps train New Small Group Leaders and oversees their care throughout the semester. 18+

New Co. Students: Leading middle and high school students into a personal relationship with God and his church through small groups, retreats, community outreach and mission’s trips. 18+; Background Check Required

COMMUNITY TEAMS

Team Trevvett: Serving the students and staff at M. Trevvett Elementary School in Glen Allen. 14+

4^th Fridays Team: Serving alongside the Downtown Ashalnd Association to rebuild the bridge of trust between the church and the community. 13+

Legacy Team: Using the gift of giving to support major initiatives and facilitate overall vision of the church through strategic financial offerings. 18+

Small Groups have one simple purpose: to bring people together.

We believe God created us to live in relationship with others and only then can we live the full life He intends for us. Sharing life through community is part of our design, but meaningful relationships aren’t always easy to find.

That’s why New Community Small Groups exist—to make these life-changing relationships relevant and accessible to you.

WHAT HAPPENS AT A SMALL GROUP MEETING?

You’ve probably seen Small Groups meeting and not even realized it. A small group looks like friends at lunch, teams playing basketball, or people studying a book or topic of interest. At its core, a small group is a small gathering of people, and it is less about what you do and more about who you do it with. By participating in Small Groups, you can expect to connect with others through a common activity, engage in life giving conversation and request prayer.

The truth is, not everyone will find the best fit with the first group they try. This is why we encourage you to select a few groups that interest you, contact the leaders and try out a couple different groups before choosing the best one for you. The simple strategy to finding success in Small Groups is to not give up. We believe there is a group that is right for everyone—including you!

We believe that water baptism is a public declaration of three important things: you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are beginning a changed life in Christ, and you are part of a new family.

Baptism is an important step of obedience that shows others we have personally trusted Jesus for our salvation. Jesus was baptized when He was on the earth, and we do this to follow His example. When we baptize at New Community, participants are submerged under water to identify with the death and burial of Jesus, and raised out of the water to identify with His resurrection.

What is Baptism?

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change. It's a public declaration of how Jesus changed your life. Being baptized shows others that you've decided to follow Jesus, and allows them to celebrate this decision with you (Acts 1 6:31-34 ).

Baptism doesn't save a person; it's a symbol and celebration of salvation ( 1 Peter 3:21 ). The power that brought Jesus back to life is the same power Jesus uses to change our lives - and that's worth getting excited about!

Do you Baptize children?

As parents, we can help point our children to Jesus, but ultimately they are the ones who decide if they will commit their lives to Him (Romans 10:9).

We believe that no matter your age, any step towards Jesus is the right step! When it comes to baptism, though, we wait until children are old enough to express their own decision to follow Jesus and understand the meaning of baptism. (Acts 10:47-48).

If your child has already asked Jesus into their life, we're happy to help you facilitate the conversations about baptism and celebrate with you once they are ready to take this step.

What's the difference between immersing, sprinkling and other ways of baptizing?

Do you share my story at my baptism?

Yes- we invite everyone who gets baptized to write out 4-5 sentences about why they are taking this step and what it means for them. We read this while you are getting into the water and before your baptism.

Here are some examples of what people have said in the past:

"I’m being baptized today to proclaim publicly that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. This have never been more clear to me than over the past 5 years. I’m very thankful for all the work He has done in my life and will continue to do. For a long time I’ve known that Jesus is my Savior, but I want Him to be my leader. I would like to know Him and his teachings more deeply and allow Him to guide me to serving Him where He sees fit."

"Before I found Jesus, I was driven by my fears and anxieties. Sometimes the uncertainties in life were too much. But now that I am following Jesus, I know I am secure in him. I may not know the full picture, but I know he will always be with me and he will be faithful to lead and guide me."

"Today, I want to proclaim publicly through re-baptism that Jesus is my Lord and Savior, that I fully submit to his rule in my heart, mind and life. I will live my remaining life on a continuing quest to know Him more and more each day, submit to where He sends me to serve him. Jesus has never failed me. He will never fail you, you can trust him."
